It’s Global Day of Influence today!
Influence is a double-edged sword. In the hands of the right people, it is a tool for positive change. Wielded by the mischief-maker, it is a destructive force capable of altering the course of mankind.
The misapplication of influence cost almost one million lives in Rwanda in 1994.
The same influence wielded by the iconic women of Aba and Abeokuta resulted in greater participation of women in the governance of their communities. It also led to the abolishment of arbitrary taxes on market women.
How we decide to use our influence and what results from it is our responsibility.
Influence — and the way we deploy it — both in our little spaces and in the larger communities we belong to, has become even more essential to the progress of the human race.
So as we recognise and celebrate the first-ever Global Day of Influence today, I implore you to raise your voice and take a stand on issues that affect our communities and the world at large.
Join the influence challenge today by doing the following:
- Post a picture of your biggest influence(s)
- Tag them and explain how they influence you. These individuals must be people that inspire you to take a stand.

- Nominate other people to do the same
