OAU Placards, Getting Your Voice Heard and Plaqad

I attended OAU when real student unionism was still alive, though on its last breath.

We would march to the Motion Ground, in front of the Senate building, to protest water scarcity, prolonged power outage and other mundane inadequacies of the Management.

We would sing Aluta songs, dance, eat and carry Placards. In the end, we would make our demands known.

Whenever we carried those Placards, the news would always spread fast. On other school campuses, radio and TV stations, newspapers, blogs, everywhere.

Then nine out of ten times, our demands were granted by the School Management.

So when people ask me what “Plaqad” means? I pause and try to let them figure it out. With a knowing look, I guide them, holding their memory by the hand till they finally realize it.

Plaqad is a symbol of protest against “marketing as usual”. It is a call to change the status quo. It is a challenge to the old way of reaching customers.

Plaqad is a protest against expensive, inaccessible marketing.

Plaqad is the individual’s and small business’ best chance to be heard in the market.
