Plaqad Releases First-Ever Report on Big Brother Naija at NEC Live 7
In Nigeria, barring perhaps a natural disaster, a presidential election, or Nigeria’s Super Eagles playing a world cup final, no other event has the popularity and stickiness to get Nigerians glued to their TV for hours unending like BBNaija. BBNaija is arguably the most watched reality TV show in Africa.
But then, one also tends to wonder exactly how much impact the show has on youth culture in Nigeria; does it in any way impact the nation’s economy or is it simply one of the many shows remarkable only for its entertainment value?
Also, what is the rationale for gathering a group of able-bodied young men and women in their prime in a house simply to eat, drink, party, participate in periodic tasks and have sex?
These questions and many others require that one looks beyond the surface and that’s what we’ve done @plaqadinc by creating the first-ever Big Brother Naija report wherein we dug deeper to see how (or more aptly, if) the show indeed provides opportunities for young people to succeed and whether it has any bearing whatsoever on the economy.
We launched the report earlier today at the Nigerian Entertainment Conference Live which is particularly symbolic as NEC Live has been the rallying point for the creative industry for the past seven years.
